How did the Alpha Kappa Alpha scholarship originate?
The Alpha Kappa Alpha known as AKA scholarship originated from the AKA incorporated. This is the first black women fraternity or sorority of women of the world who are college-educated.
AKA incorporated serves as the oldest Greek- letter organization. It was founded on 15th January, 1908. The founding took place in the Howard University campus, Washington, DC. Its history tells a significant history in America dating back to over a century here.
The founders were peculiar women burdened with great concerns of social issues predominant in their time. Having been rescued from slavery, these young women valued the essence of freedom with the privileges accompanied. It led them to pursue their educational goals at reputed institutions.

How does the Alpha Kappa Alpha Scholarship get funding
As earlier stated Alpha Kappa Alpha scholarship is a subsidiary of AKA incorporated. This national sorority has a philanthropic goal which entails helping students which are smart to fund their college expenses.
AKA scholarship is directly under the charitable arm of the sorority known as the Alpha Kappa Alpha Educational Advancement Foundation. The foundation offers scholarship worth $2,500 to students who have dire financial need and also merit in based on academic records.
Also, the foundation lends support beyond the limitations of race, gender, creed, age, disability, sexual orientation and ethnicity. It renders support to students without constraints. Despite being black female founded, its scholarship isn’t restricted to the female gender or the blacks. This is something quite commendable.

Membership is strictly by invitation and restricted to female undergraduate and graduate students.
The membership platform is categorized in two; undergraduate and graduate chapter. Intended applicants for membership must possess ethical and moral standards that are high.
When a membership is authorized, applicants would receive a membership letter to that effect. This is in completion of the sorority’s official Membership Intake Process known as MIP.
Requirements for undergraduate membership
- You must have undergone matriculation to affirm that you are a full time student of a particular school.
- You must have earned or completed full time hours of twelve or more as applicable in your school.
- In the academic grading system, you must be on not less than 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
- You must be in attendance at the official rush. The official date, time and location is often posted some weeks in advance. Not attending the rush considers you ineligible.
- A letter of acceptance is usually issued. This is succeeded by the membership intake process.

Requirements for a graduate membership
- You must complete a baccalaureate degree with C+ equivalent to 2.5 on a 4.0 scaling as the cumulative average. Also, one can possess a varying graduate or professional degree from an accredited varsity.
- You must possess talents and motivational skills to promote, implement policies and programs of the AKA sorority.
- Be in attendance during the information session with documents required. This would be listed in the letter of invitation.
