Other Canada Student Visa requirements

Do you have your admission letter now? The next factor of consideration should include the situations where you do not need to apply For a Student Visa to Study in Canada as an international student.

If you happen to be in the list of these categories, then you can navigate to the next phase because you don’t need to apply for a Canada Student Visa:

  • You are one of the members of foreign armed forces from the Visiting Forces Act.
  • If you are a family or one of the staff members of a foreign representative in Canada, who is accredited by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Development Canada.
  • You are a citizen of another country, but you have an Indian status registered in Canada.
  • You apply for a study programme that will not exceed six months.

Though in either of these situations, you do not need a student visa to study in a Canadian University you will be requiring an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/visit-canada/eta.html to enter Canada.

These are the steps involved to obtain your student Visa:

Visit the official Immigration portal known as the  Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) website to apply for your student visa.

You can as well go to Canadian Embassy in your country to apply for your student visa manually.

Note, whether you are applying online or on paper, you will be required to provide the acceptance letter from a recognized University by the Canadian Government that you applied in and accepted your application.

You must have or prove to the embassy that you possess enough financial resources to cover your transportation, accommodation, and tuition fees in Canada.

You must not have had any criminal record.

You must also present your medical test result that proves that you are healthy and it must certify that you must have undergone full medical examinations required by the Canadian Government for international students.

Based on the new Canada Student visa requirements ( Visa regulations), it is important if you have a family member who is working in Canada or that stays in Canada, and is applying for a work permit in Canada, it will only take you two weeks to get your study permit processed.

However, most students now have the opportunity to study or work in Canada due to the Covid-19 updates and policy shifts in the country.

And you can immediately renew or extend your study permit if you wish to continue your studies, if your programme has an extension or if you change your school.
