The Ethiopian Space Science and Technology Institute (ESSTI) is an Ethiopian association that conducts end-to-end space science and technology research in all space applications and the creation of space infrastructure.

Requirements

MSc and above in the fields of Electronics and Electronic Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Satellite Communications Engineering, Satellite Systems Engineering or other related fields of research with 4 years or more of work experience in those fields.

Responsibility

Study on the design and production of small to medium-sized satellite systems.

Help for subsystems of the platform, payload instruments, on-board program control, satellite simulator, and operations of the ground portion.

Monitor the proper functioning of orbital satellites and troubleshoot operational failures of the satellite in orbit.

Providing feedback and updating the description of operating principles of the system and satellite.

Monitor the proper functioning of orbital satellites and troubleshoot failures of satellite service in space.

Support for new satellite commissioning and regular operations.

Professional Skill: Good engineering and natural science background.

Associate Researcher- II and Above 

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in observational, astrophysics, and computational astronomy.
  • Optical observational astronomy training is mandatory.
  • Job experience in previous years at research centers or universities is compulsory.
  • It is compulsory to apply 2-3 pages of research proposals and activities at the time of submission.
  • 2 years of experience at work.

Responsibility

Operation and construction of the Entoto Observatory, and possible development of other future Ethiopian astronomical sites.

The Entoto Observatory, the A&A department, and the ESSTI science and scientific growth.

Entoto’s celestial observations and data reduction.

Lecturing within the post-graduate curriculum of the A&A department.

Supervision of MSc and Ph.D. students.

Coordination of teams, classes, units, etc. of study

Mobilization of capital (grants, plans, human resources, etc.) and expanding national and international partnerships with the A&A department and ESSTI.

Depending on the needs and availability of the participant, involvement in all other activities within the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics.

Participation in all other ESSTI activities according to the needs and availability of the individual.

There is a great need for expertise in optical observational astronomy: in science, astronomical observations, and data reduction.

Motivation and skills are highly required to develop optical observational astronomy at Entoto and contribute to the growth of Entoto.

  • MSc with CGPA 3.50 and above, experience of 2 years

Responsibility

Service and maintenance of the Entoto Observatory’s telescopes and instrumentation.

General running of the Observatory Entoto.

Further construction of the Entoto Observatory in Ethiopia and other possible astronomical locations.

Scientific support for the observation of astronomy.

Possibility of the Instrumentation Unit coordinating.

Under the Instrumentation Unit, Astronomy and Astrophysics Department, and the ESSTI in general, general instrumentation and technical advancement.

Depending on the needs and availability of the participant, involvement in all other activities under the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics.

Participation in all other ESSTI activities according to the needs and availability of the individual.

Professional Skills:

Telescope and astronomical instrumentation expertise will be highly assessed and maximum preference will be granted to applicants with this knowledge.

Previous experience would be strongly tested in the coordination of teams and groups.

Previous mechanical/electrical engineering experience is compulsory.

Awareness of the Linux/Unix system and expertise in programming will be respected.
