A brief history of Redeemer University

The university came into existence in September 1982. However, with few less than a hundred full-time students and more than fifty part-time students.

The number of Redeemer University students grew to about 250 in less than 3 years. Though the final year classes met in facilities rented from the Board of education of the city of Hamilton.

In same year the number increased, the university got expanded by buying 78 acres of land in Ancaster. That is different location from the previous one in Hamilton.

Similarly, they started building new campus which was completed in August 1986. In same year, they moved in the new facilities and however, welcomed 279 students.

REDUCTION TUITION FEE

Redeemer University is affordable after many changes and restructures has been done to the tuition fee. Such changes like significant debt reduction and minimal tuition increases.

Consequently, without making changes in these tuition fee, Redeemer students were facing an annual tuition cost of $20,000 in the next 5-6 years.

The commitment to affordability also helps Redeemer remain competitive in Ontario’s changing higher education context.

In early January, the Ontario government announced changes to tuition fees for public college and university students and some changes to the OSAP program.

A more comparable price to public universities will attract more students to Redeemer and higher enrolment will sustain a lower tuition rate.

Similarly, more students will also create opportunities for programs and facilities that will serve students even better. The goal is to double undergraduate enrolment to a total enrolment of over 1,200 students by 2023.

On other hand, the new rate of $9,800 will start in fall 2019. The new rate will remain frozen until the 2023-2024 academic year. However, at which point tuition increases will return to the industry standard of 2-3% per year from the base of $9,800 tuition.

TUITION FEE FOR UNDERGRADUATE AND POSTGRADUATE INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

International undergraduate students returning to Redeemer will also qualify for a special support bursary of $2,500. This will help them transition to the new tuition and fee structure.

However, the tuition fee for professional postgraduate students is fixed. Also, Redeemer will, however, freeze the program’s current tuition rate for the coming academic year.
