The Orange Social Venture Prize in Africa and the Middle East is organized to give rewards to the selected Competitors/ beneficiaries that made a remarkable impact in technological projects.

The Orange Social Venture Prize in Africa and the Middle East (OSVP), is an annual award that has gained a lot of recognition all around Africa and the Middle East,

They have been in existence for 10 years. 

The submission for the 11th Orange Social Venture Prize in Africa and the Middle East. , started on 9th March 2021, and will last till 4 June 2021. 

The competition is organized in two stages: firstly, they will organize a national competition in 17 countries; thereafter, an international jury will be appointed to selects the winners of the Grand Prix.

Then, on the second consecutive year, they will reward the International women on more start-ups, with the Prize worth €20,000.

This prize will be given to a woman who carried out a project to improve the living standards of women in Africa and the Middle East.

Eligibility

Applicants for this challenge must certify some certain requirements before making the application; here are the requirements:

  • An entrepreneur, not less than the age of 21 years in March 2020
  • The project must be located in one of the 17 countries, either in Africa or the Middle East country, where the orange company is.
  • It must be an innovative project, providing a solution with the use of ICT or mobile internet to proffer solution to the people.

List of the Countries eligible for the offer

Here is the list of the countries eligible for the Orange Social Venture Price 2021 in Africa and the Middle East;

Botswana, Burkina-Faso, Cameroon, Egypt, Ethiopia, Guinea Conakry, Guinea Bissau, Côte d’Ivoire, Jordan, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Niger, Liberia, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Tunisia.

Mode of selection

These are the two stages involved in the selection of the awardees to the Orange Social Venture winners Prize;

National Phase

The competitions involve two stages, first of the stages is a local phase, which normally takes place between March and June in the17 Orange subsidiary companies.

After that, each host countries are allowed to select the three prize winners.

International phase

In the second phase of the competitions, the selected winners from each of the previous countries will be allowed to compete with themselves.

Thereafter, the international jury appointed by the Orange start-up economic system to represent them will then meet to decide on the final prize winner.

After the 2 procedural phases, the 3 national winners will automatically qualify, without the long process of resubmitting their project for the international Grand Pix organized by Orange MEA.

Therefore the grand jury has the final say in determining the 3 prize winners for the Orange Social Venture Prize Africa & Middle East.

Criteria for the international women prize

The following standard of projects are required for the Orange Social Venture Prize 

  • The project must have positively influenced the living standard of the women within the host countries.
  • The project must also provide a technological solution to the living standard of the people within Africa or Middle Eastern countries.
  • Projects that are eligible for the International Grand Prix may also qualify for the International Women’s Prize, as long as they meet the identification criteria mentioned above.
  • In the two awards above. The grand jury still has the final decision to determine the overall winner of the International Women’s Prize within the Orange Social Venture Prize Africa & Middle East. 

Number of Awards: 3

Value of the 1st award: € 25,000 (twenty-five thousand euros)

Value of the second award: € 15,000 (fifteen thousand euros)

Value of the third award: € 10,000 (ten thousand euros).

The body responsible for the International women’s prize award is the GroupDiversity and Inclusion Department.
