During the 2016/2017 reporting period, Universidad Antonio Nariño undertook a number of activities that underscore its commitment to UNAI and its principles. The following examples stand out as particularly noteworthy: Antonio Nariño University (UAN) undertook different activities addressing, in particular, UNAI principle 2 Capacity Building, UNAI principle 4 Global Citizenship, UNAI principle 5 Access to higher education, and UNAI principle 7 Intercultural Dialogue commitments:
* Capacity Building: in 2017, through the International Office, the University implemented a Capacity Building Program primarily aimed at professors and staff about significant issues on education, nationally and internationally. The first phase of the program was focused on the subject Curriculum Internationalization upon which different activities have been made: – webinars with Universities from other countries which share their knowledge and experience about the subject – Virtual courses – Workshops and conferences with international experts on the subject
* Global Citizenship: One of UAN’s strategic institutional projects is the Internationalization Laboratory (UAN INT-LAB), a space for reflection and collective construction, guided by the American Council on Education. The laboratory is organized in seven (7) dimensions which address a comprehensive internationalization of the institutions involved.
This objective had driven the University to a holistic conception of its internationalization process and an engagement of its academic community in all the processes, actions, and activities made to achieve its goal.
In that sense, is important to highlight the compromise of UAN staff and academics working in the “curriculum, co-curriculum and learning outcomes” dimension, through which the Institution had include courses made with Universities abroad, subjects about worldwide issues (Big Data, Sustainability, SDO, etc.) and construction of the academic programs based on international structures in order to offer to Universidad Antonio Narino students an education that allows them to become citizens of the world.
* Access to Higher Education: Throughout his history, UAN has incorporated the democratization of education as a core principle. Its commitment is reflected in its nationwide network, with campuses in 26 cities even in remote Colombian regions, in the economical possibilities given to its low-income student population and the schedule flexibility of its programs whereby a lot of Colombian students, who must work to pay its education, have the means to achieve their careers.
* Intercultural Dialogue: As well as the Capacity Building Program, UAN is also working in an Intercultural Program where students, professors, and staff who come from different countries have an international stay at Antonio Nariño University participate in intercultural activities.
They are the leaders of the activities where they show their country (main political, economic, and geographical facts), their culture (music, dance, gastronomy, language or jargon), and their way of thinking in order to open the UAN community mind and understanding of other people.
