A brief history of UACH

UACH was developed from the preexisting Literary and scientific institute of Chihuahua. The literary and scientific institute of Chihuahua was established in 1835, 19th March.

This was done to promote culture in Chihuahua. The institute offered Latin and Spanish grammar. From inception until 1900, over 996 students were enrolled.

As the demand for education increased in the state, students had to leave to acquire education and this had a grave toll on the city. A decision was made by the state legislature with the then governor founding Universidad Autonoma de Chihuahua in 1954.

UACH started with some faculties like the school of medicine, engineering, physical education, law, pharmacy.

Two years later, in 1956 precisely, the ranching school was found known as the faculty of animal science. Succeeding was the school of accounting and administration.

In 1960, the central library was found and a quartet created which is now the UACH symphony orchestra.

In 1963, the faculty of philosophy and literature was created, followed by the faculty of agriculture and forestry.

1968 was when UACH acquired autonomy and became the Autonomous University of Chihuahua. From then on, other faculties were created.

UACH ranks amongst the top 5% universities in Mexico according to international rankings and in the top 16% worldwide. This varsity is amongst others offering online education. Over 3000 teaching staff to deliver quality education to 29,000 students. 

UACH is highly reputable in the field of sports, bagging the National Conference trophy twice. Some sports they engage in are; soccer, basketball, martial arts, inline hockey, athletics, and archery.
