Structure of study programs

Most universities and universities of applied sciences offer the following:

  • Bachelor’s programs, which conclude with the degree of Bachelor. ECTS credits: at least 180
  • Master’s programs, which require the successful completion of a bachelor’s study program and conclude with the academic degree of Master’s. ECTS credits at least 120
  • Doctoral/Ph.D. programs: Doctoral studies are based on the successful completion of traditional or master’s degree programs and are conceived to demonstrate the ability of autonomous research. Doctoral programs conclude with the degree of ›Doktor/in‹ or ›PhD‹. The duration is at least three years without the award of ECTS credits.

Traditional degree programs:

These programs conclude with the award of a traditional university degree: Magistra or Magister in most disciplines or Diplom-Ingenieur(in) for engineers. Duration: 4 – 6 years.

The academic calendar for the University Of Mozarteum Salzburg Austria

  • The academic year in Austria, as a rule, begins on October 1st and ends on September 30th of the following year. It consists of two semesters:
  • Winter semester (October 1st to January 30th),
  • Summer semester (March 1st to September 30th)

For bachelor’s programmes

Students with EU/EEA school leaving certificate:

Proof of nationality (photocopy of your passport).

A secondary school leaving certificate that entitles you to admission to university studies in your home country.

German language proficiency (secondary school leaving certificate confirming German lessons of at least 4 years or a German-language diploma or similar documents).

Students with non-EU/EEA school leaving certificate:

Proof of nationality (photocopy of your passport)

An equivalent secondary school leaving certificate

Your certificate of special qualification for university studies (Orig. German: “Nachweis der besonderen Universitätsreife”): you have to prove that you would be entitled to admission to your chosen degree program in the country which issued your secondary education diploma.

German language proficiency (secondary school leaving certificate confirming German lessons of at least 4 years or a German-language diploma or similar documents)

For master’s programmes:

Successful completion of at least a 6 semester specialised relevant Bachelor’s degree (min 180 ECTS)

For PhD programmes:

Master’s degree in the same field of study as your research proposal or equivalent

Universities of Applied Sciences

For most of the study programs at the Universities of Applied Sciences, you have to apply online. The prerequisite for the admission for a bachelor’s program is as follows

The general university entrance qualification (an equivalent secondary school leaving certificate) or Relevant professional qualification.

Some Fachhochschule degree programs also require proof of sufficient knowledge of the German language.

Moreover, all applicants have to undergo an entrance procedure.

This differs from a one-degree program to the next. Usually, you have to submit written documents, pass written or oral tests, and take part in an interview.

For master’s programmes

Successful completion of at least a 6 semester specialized relevant Bachelor’s degree (min 180 ECTS).

Tuiton fee regulations for:

University Of Mozarteum Salzburg Austria

For Austrian students and students who have the same status as Austrians (i.e. nationals of all EU and EEA member countries) and who have not exceeded the minimum duration of their study program plus two semesters, no fee is payable.

After the two semesters of tolerance, you have to pay 363.36 euros each semester.

  • For all other students from third countries (who are in possession of a Residence Permit-Student) 726.72 euros per semester is generally required.
  • The student union membership fee “ÖH-Beitrag” and the student accident insurance fee is 20.20 euros per semester and is compulsory for all students.

An exemption from paying tuition fees or a full/partial refund of the tuition fees is possible in special cases (e.g. for holders of certain scholarships, for participants in exchange programs and university partnerships, for students from certain countries).
