History of The AIS Scholarship Award Program

When Dale Tingey became the director of the Institute of American Indian Studies and Research at BYU in 1971, he created objectives that would transform his works into a mind-blowing entity:

To assist Native Americans in every aspect of their lives without affecting the individual’s culture and heritage.

One of the major goals of this program is to provide education for the people and with other goals, everything was working out.

Until eventually, BYU decided to take hands off the program to focus more on other different programs.

Dale couldn’t let this affect his establishment.

Thus, other supportive donors contributed with dale and created American Indian Services as a 501(c) (3) public charity.

Dale offered to become the director focusing on serving his community.

In 2012, this situation made Dale stepped down amicably from the status with the motive of focusing more on the directing role.

As a result, Dale recognized Jay Brasher to take over the position he stepped down from.

Moreover, Jay has done much to continue leading and growing the organization to success.

He is following the footsteps of Dale by maintaining a caring attitude and kindness. They plant a seed of opportunity and hope
