What is Summer Fellowship Program?

The IITM – Summer Fellowship Program of two months with a stipend is designed to enhance awareness and interest in high-quality academic research among young Engineering, Management, Sciences, and Humanities students through a goal-oriented summer mini-project undertaken at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.

How can I become a Fellow of Indian Academy of Science?

Invitation for Nomination: A circular letter drawing the attention of the Fellows of the Academy, to the last date on which nominations for Fellowship should reach the Office of the Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi, shall be issued in the first week of September every year.

Minimum Academic Requirement for Summer Research Program:

Students who have secured not less than 80% in Math’s and Science subjects in their 10th and 12th standard or equivalent examinations, and not less than first class in graduation and post-graduation (if applicable).

Students presently studying in I and II years of B.Sc., I, II & III year of B.S., I, II & III year of B.E. /B.Tech. I year of M.Sc. and I-IV year of Integrated M.Sc. can apply for Life Sciences.

Students presently studying in II & III years of B.Sc., II, III & IV year B.S., II, III & IV year of B.E/B.Tech. I year of M.Sc. and I-III year of Integrated M.Sc. can apply for Physical Sciences, Engineering Sciences, and Mathematics.

Students presently IV year of BS-MS, I year of M.Sc., and IV years of Int. M.Sc. can apply for Materials Sciences and Chemical Sciences.

The students selected under this program are placed with scientists at the Centre or elsewhere in India, for 2 continuous months with a stipend of Rs. 10000. The filled-in application form with attested documents should reach the address mentioned below:

About the Summer Research Fellowship Program

Three national science academies – Indian Academy of Sciences, Bengaluru; Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi, and The National Academy of Sciences, Prayagraj invite applications for Summer Research Fellowship Programme 2020 from students and teachers. Selected fellows will receive a monthly fellowship and round trip train fare. 

Have you been in search of a collaboration for a research project as an Indian student or teacher, here it is! The three National Academies of Science is pleased to announce its two-month INSA Summer Research fellowships 2020.

This Indian Academies of Science Internship will allow Indian students and teachers to collaborate with the scientists/academics of the three academies in 2020.

The purpose of the INSA Summer Fellowship is to help candidates pursue an independent career in university research. It can also be seen as a young scientist award.

Host Nationality

The Indian National Institute of Science (INSA) was established to promote science in India and use scientific knowledge for the cause of humanity and the good of the nation.

Eligible Nationality

The Indian Academy of Sciences Summer internship is open to only students and teachers of science in India.

Scholarship Worth

The selected students/teachers of the Indian Academies of Science Internship will receive a suitable monthly and round-trip scholarship to cover their living expenses at their place of work.

Eligibility for Indian Academies of Science Internship

Applicants of the INSA Summer Research fellowships must meet the following conditions:

For Students

Applicants must study at one of the following locations:

BS / BSc / BVSc / BPharm (only II and III)

BE / BTech / BCA / BArch (only years II and III)

MS / MSc / MVSc / MPharm (only 1 year)

ME / MTech / MCA / MArch (only 1 year)

(5 years integrated) MS / MSc / MTech / MBBS (only II, III, IV)

PharmD (only III, IV years)

(Double degree) BTech + MTech (only II / III, IV years)

(Double degree) BE + MSc (only II, III, IV years)

(double degree) BS + MS (only II, III, IV years)

Integrated doctorate (only I, II years)

MSc Tech (only I, II years)

For Teachers

Teachers must teach at a college or university.

Other Criteria include:

The minimum percentage of average marks only in the main subjects (ie without languages) from standard X Students should be at least 65% until graduation (regardless of year). The minimum percentage of average marks does not apply to teachers.Ph.D. students are not eligible.

Candidates who have already used the Academies Scholarship twice cannot apply.

College Admission Requirement

The INSA Internship is open to students and teachers from all universities and colleges affiliated to the UGC/AICTE/MCI/Accredited Institutions of State Universities for these scholarships.

Terms and Conditions

The fellowship is available only for two months. 

The list of selected candidates and the concurrence of the guide will be communicated around February–March 2020.

The write-up can also include the specific experiment or theory that the applicant wants to work on but NOT a general description of the area. The write-up should not be a “copy and paste” job from any source.

How to Apply

Application for the INSA Summer research fellowship 2020 is done online. However, the following should be submitted on the application:

Both students and teachers must upload the scanned versions of the mark sheets from class X marks till the last examination in JPEG format (the size of each mark must not exceed 700 KB).
