Even though BBC Pidgin reported that NIMC has removed the mobile app that helps citizens download and print their identity cards from the Android application, there is a hope that the initiation has not been killed completely.

How to check if my National Identity Card is Ready

Now, fill in your first name, last name and your NIMC check tracking ID and hit the ‘check now’ icon.

If your card is ready, you can now head over to an activation centre to collect and activate it.

How can I get my National ID Card?

Requirements for the National e-ID Card collection and activation

To collect and activate your e-ID card, the following requirements must be met: You should have received your Batch ID Number via SMS.

You should have a 4 digit secret pin for the e-ID Card activation.

Do not share this PIN with anyone else. Also, take note that your fingerprints will be used for activation.

This is for those who have already enrolled for the National Identification. One can get his or her NIN by dialing *346# from the phone number associated with your voter’s card, driver’s license, or BVN registration.

To download the NIMC Identity card you must note that many Nigerians have had the slip for years. This is the temporary document that was meant to assist citizens wherever their identity is required.

From the link earlier seen online, you can now download this app at play store, access your original National ID with a photo and print it whether on paper or plastic to yourself.

Even though this link currently shows unavailable, there is a strong hope that the management will find a means to get it live, because it is a welcome development.

The procedures for downloading and printing the new NIMC national Identity Card using Android Phone app is as follow:

How to Enroll for NIMC national Identity Card/Number

But first, the Nigerian must visit the official website of the National Identification management Commission NIMC to initiate the processes.

The applicant visits the official website of NIMC ( and pre-enrolls online using the Pre-enrolment Portal (, filling in his/her data in block letters, then prints out a summary sheet that has a 2D Barcode.

It is important to note that Online Pre-Enrolment is an initial step in the enrolment process.

The enrolment is only completed after the applicant gets his or her biometric data (fingerprints, headshot photograph, and signature) captured and processed by an Enrolment Officer at any NIMC Enrolment Centre.
